Hero cops came to the rescue of a 19-year-old man after he was struck and pinned beneath a New York City taxi.

Police officers from the 40th Precinct rushed to the scene and lifted the cab off the trapped pedestrian.

The victim, identified as Luis Velasquez, was struck by the taxi early Sunday morning in the Bronx.

Witness Rico Elias described the accident to CBS. "They lifted it up!" he said. "There was no jack. They used their hands and backs and lifted the car up and over and got him out. The sarge said ‘Let’s get it up’ and they got it up, and they broke their butts doing it."

Velasquez was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

The taxi driver is not facing any criminal charges.
