9/11: Magazines Commemorate The Anniversary Of The Attacks (PHOTOS)

The tenth anniversary of 9/11 has brought a flurry of magazine covers commemorating the tragic events of that day.

Some are choosing to mark the tenth anniversary with images of the Twin Towers -- or the absence of them -- from New York City's skyline. Others show the people who emerged from the dust of the collapse. Across the board, many of the magazine covers seek to offer a contemplative look at the past decade since 9/11.

Choosing an image that strikes the right tone and captures the national mood is no simple task. Bloomberg BusinessWeek has already won plaudits for its cover, which featured a striking aerial view of Ground Zero.

But the magazine's creative director Richard Turley also wrote, "The pressure to perform and make stand-out issues is intense as magazines compete for the imaginary ‘who did the best 9/11 coverage’ awards." He dismissed the notion of competition and called it "tiring," in a note that the Atlantic called "refreshing."

See how some other magazines are commemorating the tenth anniversary of 9/11 below. (H/T to SPD.org for compiling some of the covers).
