Back in May, Ben Craw, Elyse Siegel and I took to these pages to document in mash-up video form how the midterm elections were on pace to disintegrate into "one of the stupidest and most substance-free campaigns in the history of America." We gave everyone a couple of months to pause and reflect on what they were doing to America -- turning the midterm election into an utterly insane spectacle of farm-animal-themed nonsense.

Well, two months later, we are happy to report that they've at least gone and lost the farm animals. Progress! Even still, what many political wags will tell you is a historic and important campaign for the future of America is basically still a campaign about singing and dancing and gunplay and poltergeists of historical figures and Dutch cleanser. Many of the folks involved -- sketchy primary candidates, YouTube stars, and bizarre sex-scandal accusers -- have written their last chapter in this tale. But they've set a definitive tone for the election season and have charted a course directly into the dark heart of Bonkerstan. Let's take a moment to remember this wonderful time in our lives!

God knows, we'll probably see you again in a couple of weeks.
