Mitt Romney Adviser's 'Etch A Sketch' Comment Mocked By DNC

The Democratic National Committee released a web commercial Wednesday mocking comments Mitt Romney's top spokesman made hours earlier, comparing their GOP primary campaign strategy to an "Etch a Sketch" toy.

Asked on CNN if the primary was pushing Romney too far to the right, senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom responded, "Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch a Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again."

The DNC ad predicts that Romney won't be able to erase his "extreme views," showing somewhat unconvincingly Etch-a-Sketched video of Romney pronouncing himself "severely conservative," vowing to veto the DREAM Act and get rid of Planned Parenthood.

"Mitt Romney is trying to scrub his extreme record," the ad reads, "but there are some things you can't shake off."

Romney's Republican rivals have also seized on the comment. Newt Gingrich brought an Etch a Sketch to a Louisiana rally, while aides tweeted a photo of Rick Santorum holding the toy with the caption "@RickSantorum studying up on @MittRomney policy positions."
