Apparently There Was An Inexplicable Spate Of Naked Students At Parties This Halloween

Why So Much Nudity?
|

For Halloween this year, plenty of students took gave the term "sexy costume" a whole new meaning.

First, we saw that a woman was spotted at an Arizona State University party naked, apparently like it was no big deal (NSFW link here). That was interesting, but then, GASP!, another naked woman was seen at a different ASU party.

Then this week, websites like TotalFratMove and Barstool Sports heard about couples fornicating in public at a University of Southern California Halloween bash and at Frat Beach, an annual college party at St. Simons Island, Ga.

We can't explain why so many students have been spotted in the flesh lately. We do know sometimes a nude romp can get you in trouble.

Earlier in October, a student at Prairie View A&M University was told she may be punished for her nude frolicking in a fountain on campus.

So just be careful out there, kids, and be sure to bundle up. It'll be too cold to be naked soon.

Ten Streaking Stories
WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY, VA(01 of10)

Records show that the first man to streak in America was Washington and Lee student George William Crump in 1804. The school actually embraced Crump's nude run, and General Robert E. Lee encouraged the tradition when he assumed the position of president in the later 1860s. The school's website even confirms the student streak down the Colonnade, stating "Yes, it's true. You're not a full blooded W&L graduate unless you take it all off & run the length of our 160-year old Colonnade." (credit:Alamy)
COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY, VA(02 of10)

Age-old College of William and Mary also embraces streaking. According to one William & Mary student, students go streaking in the Sunken Garden before they graduate as part of a triathlon. However, the streaking is not organized into one huge event, and instead students go whenever they wish. Photo Credit: Jrcla2, Wikimedia Commons (credit:Wikimedia Commons)
DARTMOUTH COLLEGE, NH(03 of10)

Tradition-heavy Dartmouth College makes a sport of streaking, creating two large competitions that center around the public display of nudity. One challenge called "The Ledyard Challenge" involves swimming across the Connecticut river from New Hampshire to Vermont. The students then run naked across the bridge back to New Hampshire. The second challenge has been dubbed the "Blue Light Challenge" and involves students streaking across campus and pressing all the blue light emergency buttons. However, The Dartmouth notes that, due to security, few successfully finish this competition. (credit:Wikimedia Commons)
UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, GA(04 of10)

The University of Georgia set the record for largest group streak on March 7, 1974. On that fated day 1,543 students ran naked through the university, setting a serious precedent for streakers to come. No school has yet to beat UGA's record. (credit:Alamy)
SWARTHMORE COLLEGE, PA(05 of10)

This liberal arts school took a more humanitarian approach to streaking. Members of a rugby team have turned streaking into a fundraiser, holding an event called "Dash For Cash" each semester. Supposedly spectators hold up dollar bills that the runners grab as they streak past. The apparent slogan for the event? "Bring money, or you're a pervert." Sadly, an article in Swarthmore's Daily Gazette in 2010 reported the event to be discontinued. (credit:Alamy)
WHEATON COLLEGE, IL(06 of10)

Consider it a testament to streaking's popularity that a private Christian liberal arts college made this list. Students at Wheaton College take a naked lap to a sign in front of the school which sports the institution's motto "For Christ and His Kingdom." Though there is little documentation available about this "kingdom run," rumor has it that the administration fines participating students $100 and requires a disciplinary response. TUFTS UNIVERSITY, MA(07 of10)

Tufts has held a well-known streaking event since the 1970s known as the "Naked Quad Run." After a tumultuous relationship with streaking, Tufts banned the event in 2011 when it resulted in a high level of incidents related to alcohol toxicity and a student arrest. Though the decision to ban the naked run was difficult, President Bacow is quoted saying, "Even if I did not act now, NQR would end some day. The only question is whether a student has to die first." HAMILTON COLLEGE, N.Y.(08 of10)

Hamilton College has seen a much more fortunate outcome for their streaking tradition, and in recent years they boast of a "Varsity Streaking Team." The team gained recognition when the New York Times ran an article on them in 2004. Two members of the team also appeared on Fox News(warning: this video contains some nudity) in 2006, stating that the team has streaked at about 14 to 16 schools, and that members have even streaked in other continents, such as Africa. This UC school has turned streaking into a celebration of nature with its annual "first rain." Students run through Porter College, a residential college at the university, naked(warning: this video contains nudity) during the first rainfall of the fall. Credit: Youtube (credit:Youtube )
HARVARD UNIVERSITY, MA(10 of10)

In the late 1700s, Charles Adams, son of Founding Father John Adams, got in trouble for running across Harvard's campus naked. Today Harvard students participate in a "primal scream" before final examinations begin each semester. The Harvard Marching Band sets the stage, playing music before the students run through.
