New York City Snow Storm Expected To Bring Up To 5 Inches

MIDTOWN — Only 99 days 'til spring!

For now, though, New Yorkers are bracing themselves for the first real snowfall of the winter.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday as the city was expected to be blanketed with up to 5 inches by a storm swinging up from the Southwest.

Flurries should begin around 8 a.m. and intensify throughout the morning, finally tapering off about 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The Department of Sanitation is preparing for the messy weather by loading 365 salt spreaders, attaching plows to some of its trucks and preparing tire chains.

The high for the day should be about 36 degrees, with a low of 21 coming tonight, according to the NWS.

Tuesday’s snow should easily break the Dec. 10 record of 1.3 inches, set in 1932.
