Across the country, every teenage girl is making appointments to get her hair done and legs waxed while every teenage boy hustles to the barbershop (last minute, of course) for a quick shape up. That's right, it's the beginning of June, which can only mean one thing: prom season is among us. The time for color-coordinated outfits, corsages, boutonnieres, and stretch limos is here yet again, like clockwork.
But what are all the college girls and boys (excuse me, I meant men and women) prepping for? I mean what on earth could be more important then finding a prom date?!
The answer: internships.
Whether for free or for minimum wage, every college student seems to be on their grind -- trying to get experience on their resume so there's a fighting chance at the real world.
Except what if you don't have an internship? What if you're sitting at home every day contemplating where you went wrong?
Was your GPA not high enough?
Are you in the right major?
Is this the wrong career path?
Will you be living in your parent's house forever?
Maybe a few cats?
Okay, several cats.
Regardless, the way I see it, if you didn't get the "dream" internship -- or maybe any internship for that matter -- there is no need to worry. We're young. We only have so many more summers where we don't have to worry about paying rent, about our future, about anything.
All we should have to worry about right now is whether or not to watch that extra episode of Orange is the New Black or just go to bed (the answer is go to bed, but what's life without a few bad decisions?).
The point is, Drake knew what he was saying. We only do live one life and sometimes the most important thing to do in this life is relax. Forget the internships. Forget the future. Sometimes it's just important to take one summer to focus on you. Right now.
So go ahead and watch that extra episode. Or four. You deserve it. Besides summer is synonymous with vacation after all -- isn't it?
