President-elect Barack Obama's economic team was formally unveiled today: Tim Geithner, president of the New York Federal reserve, is Obama's pick for Treasury Secretary. Former Harvard President and Treasury Secretary Larry Summers was said to be in the running for the position, but Summers will instead serve as Obama's director of the National Economic Council. It's also been announced that Christina Romer, a professor of economics at University of California-Berkeley, is Obama's pick for chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. And Melody Barnes will head the Domestic Policy Council in the Obama White House. She served as Chief Counsel to Ted Kennedy on the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1995 to 2003, was CAP's Executive Vice President for Policy, and then left to join Obama's campaign as policy director.
