Robin Roberts' Return: 'Good Morning America' Looks Back At Her Recovery

WATCH: Magic Words For Robin Roberts

Wednesday was a huge day at "Good Morning America," which welcomed Robin Roberts back for the first time in five months.

Roberts returned to the anchor desk for the first time since her bone marrow transplant in September. She had been on medical leave to treat MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disease she was diagnosed with in 2012.

On Wednesday, Roberts and the rest of the "GMA" team celebrated her return, and her doctors were on hand to inform viewers about her health. The show also looked back at Roberts' grueling recovery.

The segment showed Roberts hard at work in physical therapy and yoga, and visiting the doctor. "When you go through something like this, you can either be fearful or fearless and I choose to be the latter," she said from a hospital bed at a recent appointment.

The staff at "GMA" also took precautions ahead of Roberts' return, getting voluntary flu shots and cleaning their workspaces to lower the risk of infection for the co-host.

There were pivotal moments in Roberts' recovery, like her first time back on the "GMA" set since her bone marrow transplant. She did test runs at the studios at the end of January. The video also captured Roberts hearing music to her eyes.

"When can I go back to the studio and get back in that chair?" Roberts asked her doctor.

"Set the date and let's plan it together," he replied.

FILE - This Aug. 20, 2012 file photo released by ABC shows co-host Robin Roberts during a broadcast of "Good Morning America," in New York. Roberts has said goodbye to "Good Morning America," but only for a while. The "GMA" anchor made her final appearance Thursday, Aug. 30, before going on medical leave for a bone marrow transplant. Roberts' departure was first planned for Friday, but she chose to exit a day early to visit her ailing mother in Mississippi. In July she first disclosed that she has MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease. She will be hospitalized next week to prepare for the transplant. The donor will be her older sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, who was on hand for Thursday's emotional send-off. (AP Photo/ABC, Donna Svennevik, file) (credit:AP)
