Forget the snooze button, new research suggests there are certain songs that actually help you wake up in the morning.

And so, as most of us begin to rise after a Cup Day full of champagne and punting -- Spotify have provided us with a list of tracks proven to ease that morning grogginess.

Partnering with music psychologist, David M. Greenberg at the University of Cambridge, the music platform discovered there are certain elements a song must contain to aid in waking up, allowing them to create the ultimate Wake Up playlist with Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” at the top of the list.

According to Greenberg, the tracks guaranteed to get you out of bed should begin gently and slowly build.

Positive lyrics are also a big drawcard, which is why Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” took out the number five spot.

But it’s not just the lyrics, there also needs to be a strong beat.

“Science shows that music affects us in all types of ways, including emotionally, physiologically, and in the brain,” said Greenberg.
