Después de ver cómo Juan Manuel Márquez fue dominado por Floyd Mayweather o Andre Ward se ha mantenido lejos de los encordados por _ meses, Richard Schaefer – CEO de Golden Boy Promotions – no tiene duda, 'Dinamita' no merece estar por encima de Abner Mares en el ranking Libra por Libra.y Ward no tiene porqué ser número dos.

“Cuando veo esa lista, creo que Abner – en mi opinión – merece estar en la posición número dos de los Libra por Libra”, dijo Schaefer sobre el primer campeón mundial que se hizo bajo la completa tutela de Golden Boy Promotions. “Tienen a Juan Manuel Márquez que fue dominado en cada segundo de su pelea ante Floyd Mayweather – rey de los libra por libra – o a Andre Ward, un gran campeón que no ha peleado desde que ganó el torneo de los Medios. Abner ha hecho mucho más”, sentenció

Abner comenzó su reinado como monarca mundial hace 22 meses y ha logrado escalar no una, sino a tres divisiones enfrentando a los mejores de cada categoría.

El mexicano conquistó su primera corona (Gallo de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo) en agosto del 2011 en una contienda ante el sudafricano Joseph Agbeko, tras otorgarle la revancha y despejar todo tipo de duda, ocho meses después Abner Mares se hizo de la corona vacante Supergallo del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo al vencer al veterano boricua Eric Morel e imponerse al colombiano Anselmo Moreno brincó a la división de los Pluma en donde le arrebató el cinturón del Consejo al pegador chihuahuense Daniel Ponce de León.

Mares Martínez buscará sumar un punto más a su ya destacable carrera este fin de semana, cuando se mida al otrora doble monarca mundial Jhonny González en un duelo pactado a 12 episodios en el StubHub de Carson, California.

“Me gusta que en mi pelea exista mucho riesgo de poder perder. Eso es garantía de que la pelea será buena y es que mi meta no es ser recordado como un campeón que tiene un récord invicto enfrentando a peleadores de mediana talla, quiero que se me recuerde como un peleador que enfrentó a los mejores y que ganando o perdiendo di lo mejor”, comentó a HuffPost Voces el tapatío de 27 años, quien tiene 26 victorias, 14 de ellas por nocaut y sólo un empate.
