Al Gore Endorses Katie McGinty For Governor Of Pennsylvania

Former Vice President Al Gore (D) endorsed Katie McGinty for governor of Pennsylvania, according to a release sent Thursday.

“I strongly endorse Katie McGinty for governor. She shares my belief that we can build a better country and improve the lives of hard-working families," Gore said in the release. "Katie has always viewed environmental challenges as economic opportunities. She knows how to create jobs -- while protecting the environment. And she has the intellect, leadership skills, and optimistic, can-do attitude to build a better and more prosperous Pennsylvania."

McGinty, a former environmental adviser to the Clinton White House and ex-Gov. Ed Rendell, served as an advisor to Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.

Gore doesn't often give political endorsements. The last lawmaker he got behind was Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), who Gore endorsed because of his work on environmental issues.

McGinty is one of eight people vying for the Democratic nomination in the Pennsylvania governor's race. The primary election will take place May 20.
