May 21, 2011: Bloomberg Addresses The End Of World

Sure, Mayor Bloomberg's made his share of gaffes and bad jokes, but sometimes, he can be downright mildly amusing.

On his radio show with John Gambling, Bloomberg poked fun at the prospect of the world ending tomorrow.

Much of the clamor over the end of times is due to religious figure Harold Camping's prediction that the rapture will take place on May 21, 2011. Camping made a similar world-ending prediction in 1994, but he admitted he got his calculations wrong that time.

Bloomberg put together a top five list of predictions for what the end of times would mean for New York City residents.

His number one, from The New York Post:

"If the world does end tomorrow alternate side parking will be suspended. Although I think alternate side parking will take on a whole different meaning, actually."

The Mayor pointed out that he'll be out of town during the supposed Rapture, a fact which Gambling poked fun at given Bloomberg's infamous absence during the snowstorm of 2010. " "You're going to be criticized in the newspapers!"

Bloomberg also expressed skepticism that the world would end because "It can't end at least until the Knicks win a championship again. We've got a long time to go." (Drum hit).

Asked if he expected to be one of the lucky ones to ascend to heaven when the rapture arrives, Bloomberg said “it depends on who you ask.”

If the world does not end, it won't be funny for a retired MTA employee who spent his life savings in an attempt to warn people about the cataclysmic event.
