Christian 'Chucho' Benítez recibirá homenaje en México y Ecuador tras su repentina muerte

"¡Olé, olé, olé, Chucho, Chucho!"

La repentina muerte de Christian el 'Chucho' Benítez en Catar cimbró al fútbol internacional este lunes. Con sólo 27 años y en la cúspide de su carrera el delantero ecuatoriano falleció en circunstancias que aún son poco claras, sólo se sabe que acudió al hospital por un dolor abdominal y horas después el desenlace fue fatal por un paro cardiorespiratorio.

Se espera que los restos mortales del futbolista arriben a Ecuador la madrugada de este miércoles. El club El Jaish contrató un avión para trasladar desde Medio Oriente el cuerpo, además de que anunció correrá con todos los gastos fúnebres. Se anunció que la sepultura será el jueves en el cementerio de Monte Olivo de Quito.

En México donde vivió sus mejores momentos con los clubes Santos y América, se celebraron misas la víspera en su honor. La Federación Mexicana ha anunciado que está en coordinación con ambos equipos para preparar un homenaje a quien fuera tetracampeón de goleo de la liga local.

"La Liga está trabajando con los equipos América y Santos para rendir un sentido homenaje a un gran jugador como Benítez", dijo el presidente de la entidad, Decio de María.

El club azulcrema debutará en el torneo el próximo miércoles en León y lo hará con un moño negro en señal de luto. La directiva ha puesto a la venta localidades a un precio especial (1.5 dólares) para el partido del sábado como local frente al Atlas, a la espera de que la afición se haga presente y brinde una ovación a Benítez con el cántico "¡Olé, olé, olé, Chucho, Chucho!", informó el vicepresidente deportivo, Ricardo Peláez.

Santos, equipo que contrató por primera vez al delantero, anunció en voz de su presidente Alejandro Irarragori que se nombrará al fallecido elemento, "Santo inmortal", distinción que entre otras cosas le hace acreedor a un busto en el Estadio Territorio Santos Modelo.

En su natal Ecuador no son menos importantes los gestos de admiración, el presidente de la federación ecuatoriana, Luis Chiriboga, aseguró que la cancha principal donde entrena la selección llevará el nombre de "Christian Benítez". Próximamente habrá un juego amistoso del seleccionado sudamericano contra España, que también servirá para recordar a su delantero estelar durante las eliminatorias mundialistas.
