KANSAS CITY, Kansas, EE.UU. (AP) — Al compás de Clint Dempsey, Estados Unidos venció el martes 3-1 a Guatemala y avanzó al hexagonal final de las eliminatorias mundialistas de la CONCACAF.

El resultado dejó fuera de carrera a Guatemala, al quedar en el tercer lugar del Grupo A.

Jamaica se llevó el otro boleto de la llave al vencer 4-1 a Antigua y Barbuda. Jamaiquinos y guatemaltecos terminaron con 10 puntos, pero la diferencia de goles favoreció a los caribeños.

Dempsey marcó dos goles y también dio el pase para el convertido por Carlos Bocanegra para un empate transitorio. En busca de su séptima clasificación seguida a un Mundial, Estados Unidos sufrió bastante para sortear la ronda semifinal, saliendo primero en su llave con 13 unidades.

Guatemala, que nunca ha participado en un Mundial, golpeó primero con el gol de Carlos Ruiz a los cinco minutos.

En apuros, Estados Unidos no tardó en responder, cuando Dempsey habilitó a Bocanegra para empatar a los 10.

Dempsey sentenció el duelo con sus goles a los 18 y 36 minutos. El delantero del Tottenham inglés llegó a las 30 conquistas con la selección y así igualó a Brian McBride en el tercer lugar del equipo nacional.
