Frank Lloyd Wright Furbeck House In Oak Park Hits The Market For $949,000 (PHOTOS)

Architecture buffs take note: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Furbeck House in the suburb of Oak Park just outside Chicago is looking for a new owner.

The home was recently re-listed for $949,000. According to Curbed Chicago, making it a rare price hike rather than price drop (and putting it closer to the original 2010 asking price of $1.1 million).

Finished in 1897, Wright constructed the house for electrical contractor George Furbeck and his new wife. According to the Frank Lloyd Wright Tour, the house is from Wright's "experimental and transitional phase leading up to the Prairie Style of homes."

Listed by Better Homes And Gardens Gloor Realty, the five-bedroom, three-bathroom house is described as incorporating "repeating octagonal room plans, turrets, chamfered brick, unique art glass, quartersawn oak woodwork and cabinetry" as well as "expansive living areas."

The 3,000-square-foot home was designated an Oak Park Landmark in 2002, which could explain the absence of modern updates that are often made to homes so old (the listing says the kitchen floor is still vinyl). Air conditioning is about as fancy as the amenities get, but per the listing, the home does have a library, sun porch and a gallery.

Frank Lloyd Wright fans might recognize the Furbeck name from another home the architect built. Furbeck's father, Warren, commissioned homes for both of his sons as wedding gifts. The Rollin Furbeck House completed the same year as George's is just a half-mile away from his brother's 223 N. Euclid Ave. abode.
