Derek and Robert met just over a year ago at 2012's Burning Man art, music and self-expression festival.

When they returned to the 2013 event, Derek decided to propose to his boyfriend under the Nevada desert sun. All of their Burner friends helped out with the proposal, performing in a flashmob to Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" prior to Derek popping the question.
