As Haitian amputees heal from their initial injuries from the Jan. 12 quake, their long-term futures remain uncertain. Securing regular work and livelihoods may prove difficult, aid groups say, with physical limitations.

Compounding the problem is the fact that many amputations were done with thought to saving lives rather than fitting prosthetic limbs at a later date, so some earthquake victims may not be able to benefit from prostheses.
