Caroline Styne loves rose wines, and she's chosen five of her personal favorites for the Tavern Wine & Cheese Club tonight. So you want to be a mixologist? Take the Cocktail Crafting class tonight with the Institute of Domestic Technology and Oldfield's Liquor Room's Aaron Stepka. You'll learn how to make bitters from herbs, flowers and roots, and even bottle it to take home, and also infuse different spirits with fruits and other ingredients. And then Stepka shows you what to do with it all (i.e. make a cocktail and drink it). The class takes place in a "secret speakeasy" hidden in the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Since this is a big farmers market day for a lot of chefs, it's a great day to dine out. Check out the Wednesday summer market menu at Josie in Santa Monica (three courses, $39 per person), where Josie LeBalch serves dishes like Weiser Farm melons and prosciutto, and grass-fed beef with Weiser potatoes and green and yellow beans. At Patina downtown chef Charles Olalia's three- or four-course menu might feature something like summer squash risotto and peach melba ($49 or $59, respectively). Check out this week's menu here.
