A local news team was met with a hostile and armed man when they were out investigating a story in Joyner, Ark.

WREG's reporter April Thompson and photographer Ben Short were investigating the death of Wilton Gourdeaux, an elderly man who was allegedly killed by his family members. Since Gourdeux's family members had been arrested, Thompson reported that it was unlikely that someone would be at the home, but they visited the Goudeaux residence to check.

Thompson and Short turned to leave after it was clear that no one was home but was met by a man in a truck. The man, later identified as Brandon Odom, yelled at the news team to turn off the camera and leave the property. After Thompson told him he could not touch the camera, Odom quickly returned to his car and pulled out a gun.

"I bet I can do this," Odom said as he showed the news team his weapon. Thompson and Short returned to their vehicle and called the police. Odom was later arrested.

"We cover stories every day but it's not every day that we become a part of the story and actual victims," a WREG anchor said before introducing the story.
