New York's affinity for burgers goes unparalleled. Where else will you be able to employ a camera to stake out long lines or get away with charging $175 for a burger? From Minetta Tavern to Corner Bistro, everyone's got their favorite burger haunt in the city.

These restaurants might have some of the best red meat and bun combinations around, but few can boast the loyal employees that make up Prime Burger in Midtown, where the restaurant is much more than a burger joint. It's home, where really everyone knows your name (or at least makes an effort to).

So legendary are their burgers, Prime's devoted clientele brought in the likes of Rita Hayworth and Sammy Davis Jr. back in their heydays as some of Hollywood's greatest performers. But you won't find any foie gras bells and truffled whistles here. The restaurant is classic, old New York and has barely changed since the 1960's.

Filmmakers Ben Wu and David Usui of Lost and Found Films capture the essence of the quintessential burger joint:

For many of the guys that work here, the restaurant is like a second home - some of them have been slinging burgers, making shakes, and waiting on customers at this location for decades. Opened in 1938, the place hasn't been altered since the early '60s, and it looks all the better for it.

DBGB's "The Piggie," a beef burger with BBQ pulled pork, jalapeno mayonnaise and lettuce on a cheddar bun was a bit too sweet for our taste, but edged out the bottom half of the burgers present at Burger Bash.
8. Beauty & Essex(02 of09)

We loved the goat feta on Beauty & Essex's lamb and brisket burger.
7. ABC Kitchen(03 of09)

ABC Kitchen's cheeseburger was tasty enough, but the spicy fries were probably our favorite.
6. Shake Shack(04 of09)

We've eaten Shake Shake's burger far too many times to count. This version was the same as always but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Full disclosure: the Shake Shack sunglasses the employees were handing out didn't hurt.
5. Restaurant Marc Forgione(05 of09)

Marc Forgione's burger was by far the richest meat offering. He took a cue from the Aussies by adding an egg atop the meat -- a wise choice.
4. Custom Burgers(06 of09)

The photo says it all: perfectly cooked medium rare meat on the inside.
3. Burger & Barrel(07 of09)

The people have spoken: they love Josh Capon's juicy bison burger. Capon has won the Burger Bash before, which is why he opened Burger & Barrel in the first place. Looks like he know what he's doing.
2. Bobby's Burger Palace(08 of09)

Bobby Flay's station was mobbed all night. His burger is pure classic, with an added potato chip crunch. The dude can throw down (sorry, we couldn't resist!).
1. Schnipper's(09 of09)

The green chile burger from Schnipper's looks unassuming at first glance, but the fabulous melted aged cheddar and fire-roasted green chiles took this perfectly juicy burger to the next level. In our minds, this was the clear winner. Watch out Shake Shack, Schnipper's means business.
