While for many Chicagoans, Rahm Emanuel wasn't on the radar until he moved back to take the throne in his home-before-D.C., his connection to President Barack Obama as the former Chief of Staff is renewing national interest in the famously brash politician.

On Sunday, Emanuel was interviewed by Fareed Zakaria for his show, "CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS," where he waxed philosophically about the election, his time in the Oval Office and--most importantly--his feelings about his new gig as Chicago's mayor.

"I'm loving this job, OK?" Emanuel told Zakaria when prodded about returning to the West Wing.

When Zakaria revisited the subject of whether Emanuel would return for a job in D.C., Emanuel reasserted that leading Chicago was exactly where he wanted to be.

"This is the best job I've ever had in public life," Emanuel said about being mayor. "I love doing this. Nothing is more exciting. You can make decisions, see them through, make kind of changes...Forget even just the chief of staff. This is exciting things."

The mayor also touched on the upcoming presidential election, conjecturing that the contest will be a close one that comes down to five toss-up states.
