NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly joined "The Daily Show" on Tuesday to discuss a number of topics including gun control and a possible run for New York City mayor come November 2013.
The appearance, Kelly's first, opened up on a lighter note with Stewart poking fun at Mayor Michael Bloomberg's soda ban, as he pulled out a large soda beverage in front of the police commissioner.
Kelly pointed to the sugary drink and joked, "That's against the law. I'll give you just a warning this time."
The two then delved into more serious issues with Stewart citing the problems surrounding guns in urban cities. Kelly answered by reiterating a point he recently made in a Daily News editorial highlighting concealed handguns, not assault rifles, as the real threat to New Yorkers.
When Stewart asked about the NYPD's use of stop-and-frisks, Kelly defended the program as a tactic used in "every law enforcement jurisdiction in America."
He also pointed to the city's record low number of homicides in 2012 as an example of why stop-and-frisks should be used.
