Months after we heard rumors that Starbucks was experimenting with handcrafted sodas in Seattle, The Wall Street Journal confirms that the Seattle-based coffee chain has been testing made-to-order lemon ale, spiced root beer and ginger ale in Atlanta and Austin since last week.
Unofficial fan page Starbucks Melody has several photos featuring a soda, signage and a carbonator. Starbucks reps say it's too early to say if the sodas will get a national rollout.
From what we can tell on social media, some Starbucks customers are digging the new offerings:
This is the best day ever #starbucks makes root beer now omg sooooo #happy and it #good to #soda… http://t.co/qHNhuPwDBk

Handcrafted soda is Starbucks' latest venture outside the coffee category. Others include the juice-based Refreshers line and the chain's juice bar concept, Evolution Fresh.
