As a child he called it home. He married here. Buried a brother here. And it was in New York -- a state that tried to give him the Democratic nomination -- that he relinquished his dreams of the presidency.

Edward M. Kennedy, who died Tuesday night at 77, will be remembered as a Massachusetts man -- he represented that state in the United States Senate for 46 years with an unmistakable Boston brogue -- but he also marked some of the most important moments of his life in New York.
