Rooftop parties always sound great in theory, except I think that sometimes, people forget that we live in New York City, not Southern California. I always say: at least have a viable indoor option should the weather by chance not cooperate (I suppose this week's heat wave has gotten to all of us). Carlos Miele's penthouse apartment in the Meatpacking District has plenty of "just in case," pristine, and reflective indoor space, but luckily, it wasn't a necessary Plan B on this comfortably warm, summery, end of June evening.

The bash, hosted by CFDA and Vogue, celebrated Miele's limited-edition collection of scarves to benefit Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. As Miele tells it, the accessory is flexible and perfect for the summertime, something frothy and "feminine, that you can wear around your neck or wrap around your bag."

Miele-clad models including Alessandra Ambrosio, Michelle Alves, and Katia Lara mingled with fashion and media types the likes of Carlos Mota, Peter Davis, Bonnie Morrison, Anne Vincent, and Gigi Stone, whilst partaking of the refreshing rum and coconut water concoctions. Incidentally, one can view Miele's 14th Street store from his roof deck (at least on a clear day such as this one). That evening also marked the first time that I ever tried coconut water. Good stuff.

DJ Harley Viera-Newton deftly mixed in some tropical tunes along with the standard go-to tracks. As the half-Brazilian DJ explained, "I had already been getting a lot of requests for Brazilian music for some other events, so I had many of these songs at the ready." Regarding her plans for the rest of the summer, she plans to split her time between New York and L.A. for her respective DJ gigs, until August, when she will be spending the month in Montana. Will the Big Sky country provide inspiration for her music sets come September fashion week? As they say, only time will tell.
