Like Walker Evans and Stanley Kubrick (see photos below) before her, photographer/filmmaker Rebecca Davis takes voyeuristic photographs of New York City straphangers. She compiled the seemingly shot-from-the-hip snapshots into-- as Animal New York headlines-- a "photo video flip-book" in which the city's commuters are briefly animated while smooching, catching some shuteye, looking out the window, or blankly staring off into space.
At the end, a little kid can be seen adorably waving an American flag, before resting his head on his parents' laps.
Suffice it to say, it all feels slightly sweeter and dreamier than the other subway footage we see these days.
