Rare Empty Niagara Falls Photos Found (VIDEO)

After 41 years, rare photos of Niagara Falls empty of water have appeared, portraying the enormous landmark in stark contrast to its typically gushing rapids.

The American side of the Niagara River was diverted away from the falls in June 1969, while US engineers hoped to remove loose rock from the base of the waterfall. However, after the project became too costly, it was abandoned, according to the Mail Online.

Flow was restored to the falls in late November 1969, as Army engineers exploded their temporary dam in front of 2,650 onlookers.

The new photos were unearthed by a Connecticut man, who found them virtually forgotten in his garage.
