Man Questioned In Connection To Shooting Of 13-Year-Old Choirboy In Brooklyn

Police officials say a suspect is being questioned in the shooting of a 13-year-old Brooklyn boy.

Kareem Potomont, 21, was taken into custody Thursday from a Queens basement where he had reportedly been hiding. He has not been formally charged, but ABC7 reports that police believe he is the gunman responsible for a midday shooting that left bystander Gama Droiville seriously injured.

Droiville was standing with his family outside Avenue Pizza II on Flatbush Avenue Monday when shots were fired. Stray bullets twice struck the teenager in the head and he may lose sight in one eye, according to NBC New York.

A 24-year-old man whom the gunman had been chasing down Flatbush Avenue was also shot in the leg.

Droiville, who was born in Haiti and sings in a choir group at Fort Greene's French Speaking Baptist Church, remains grateful to be alive.

"I just stayed calm," Droiville told The Daily News. "'The Lord is with me' - that's all I said. And it helped me to stay calm!"

ABC reports that Potomont is a gang member who was involved in two earlier shootings.
