'iPad Mini' Event On October 23? Apple May Unveil New Tablet At Upcoming Event

REPORT: Apple May Release A New iPad Later This Month

The tech world was holding its breath on October 10, waiting for Apple to send out invitations to a new product release event, which many thought might be the debut of a smaller version of the iPad. But Wednesday came and went, and Apple said nothing.

However, rumors of the so-called "iPad Mini" are not dead!

AllThingsD on Friday published a new report that claims the scaled-down iPad will make its first appearance on October 23, according to "people familiar with Apple's plans." ATD also speculates that the event will be held at Apple's Town Hall Auditorium.

Here's the kicker: If Apple does unveil a new tablet on that date, it'll be stealing some of the limelight away from Microsoft's highly anticipated Surface tablet, which is expected to be released on October 26.

Much speculation surrounds the supposed iPad Mini. In July, charts of the new device surfaced online, suggesting the tablet would have 7.85-inch display. CNET has also been curating rumors from around the web, one of which suggests the iPad Mini will have a black metal back, similar to the iPhone 5.

What do you think about this new report? Do you think we'll see a new iPad this month (or ever)? Is a 7-inch tablet an Apple product you would be interested in?
