Bryan Fischer has been vehemently opposed to the presence of openly gay athletes in professional sports for some time, so it's no surprise that Jason Collins' coming out has prompted one of his signature rants.
The American Family Association pundit took to his "Focal Point" show yesterday to speculate on the lasting career implications Collins -- an 11-year NBA veteran who has played for the Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards this season -- could face in the wake of the revelation, Right Wing Watch first reported.
Fischer stated that having "an out, active homosexual" in the locker room would prompt fellow NBA players to avoid being on a team with Collins because he will be "eyeballing" them in the shower.
It isn't the first time that Fischer, whose anti-gay declarations have become a near-weekly staple of his radio show, has implied that an openly gay athlete would prompt sexual tension in locker rooms.
In March, Fischer said that a gay teammate would lead to a "grenade-like explosion" that would destroy the team in question. "The NFL's not gonna put up with that kind of nonsense," he said at the time. "They know you get sexual tension in a locker room ... you can't avoid divisive things coming into the locker room."
