Hispanic singers and composers Julio Iglesias, José Feliciano and Armando Manzanero are within the first group of artists honored at the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame (LSHOF) for their remarkable music career.
Other songwriters like Mexican José Angel Espinoza, Spaniard Manuel Alejandro and Cuban Concha Valdez have also been selected for the prize.
According to the organization, LSHOF members voted from hundreds of nominees to select the privileged group of six. As part of the requirements to be eligible for the honor, songwriters must have written their first notable song at least 20 years ago and keep a prominent career in the music industry.
The six artists will be recognized with the "La Musa" award at a cerermony on April 23, hosted by actor John Leguizamo at the New World Symphony's New World Center in Miami Beach.
Launched in October 2012, the institution aims to highlight the contribution of outstanding Latino composers within different genres. The newly formed organization also has plans to build a museum and research center on Latin music eventually.
