Gay Olympic Diver, Matthew Mitcham, Admits He Battled Crystal Meth Addiction

Gay Olympic diver Matthew Mitcham will be chatting live on Google+ today at 6pm EST to chat with anyone who has questions about Mitcham's life, successes, and addictions.

Last week The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Mitcham confessed his addiction to crystal meth in his new autobiography "Twists and Turns." After winning the gold medal in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics but not achieving the #1 ranking in the world, Mitcham spiraled into depression and began relying on meth as an outlet.

''Taking it was something I did … to take my mind off things that were upsetting me -- to make me feel better about myself,'' said Mitcham according to Towleroad.

Mitcham failed to place, much less win a medal, at the London Olympics this past summer.

Though he is still in therapy, Mitcham believes he is finding his way out of the dark and slowly returning to normalcy. As gay olympians continue to be a rarity, news about Mitcham's addiction could be a further hit.
