At last year's Tony Awards, host Neil Patrick Harris' most memorable line came early on: "Broadway has never been broader, it's not just for gays anymore."
This year, the three-time host's best line also came at the start, but he took a different tack.
"Welcome to the 66th annual Tony Awards, or as we like to call it, 50 Shades of Gay," Harris quipped, in a nod to E.L. James' popular erotic novel, "50 Shades of Grey."
Harris delivered a couple more zings and ended his opening on a song-and-dance number with Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
