According to The Hollywood Reporter, President Obama's Martha's Vineyard getaway, called Blue Heron Farm, is up for sale. The 28.5-acre property, owned by Republican businessman William Van Devender, is where the Obama family has vacationed for the past three years, including their latest visit in August.
The private retreat, also known as the "Summer White House" has been listed by Wallace & Co. and Sotheby's International Realty for $23.7 million and includes two full-size homes, equestrian facilities and numerous recreational amenities such as waterview pool area, tennis court, par 3 golf hole, basketball and more (comfortable enough to accommodate a large contingent of White House staff and Secret Service personnel, according to a Sotheby's brochure.) The property is set alongside extensive waterfront on Tisbury Great Pond with access to a private beach on the Atlantic.
The main residence contains 12 total rooms spread over three finished floors of living space. The Barn on the property was relocated from Pennsylvania and completely rebuilt. It currently includes eight stalls for horses, the attached two-bedroom Mill House, game room, and office space. Adjacent to the Barn is a three bay garage building with a private two-bedroom apartment.
"In the past, people have said the property is ‘like an Island unto itself’ and I agree with that completely," said Thomas C. Wallace, president, Wallace & Co. Sotheby's International Realty and listing broker for Blue Heron Farm, in a news release. "On the Vineyard, Blue Heron Farm is one of only of handful of large private waterfront compounds," Wallace said.
In addition to the Obamas, Bill Clinton was spotted at Blue Heron Farm when he attended a 1998 dinner there in his honor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
