Rahm: Paul Ryan's Budget 'Would Lead To A Recession'

At an unrelated news conference Tuesday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel slammed his former congressional colleague -- and Mitt Romney's running mate -- Paul Ryan.

Emanuel specifically jabbed Ryan, with whom he previously served on both the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Budget Committee, on his budget proposal, NBC Chicago reports.

"A lot of independent economists say his budget would lead to a recession," the mayor said Tuesday, according to the station. "I don't think a recession is a pro-growth strategy."

The mayor, who is no stranger to lashing out against the former Massachusetts governor, also took the opportunity to criticize Romney's stance toward the auto industry bail-out.

Gov. Romney said, ‘Let it go bankrupt,’” Emanuel, Obama's former chief of staff, said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Emanuel's comments came the same day as Romney lashed out against Barack Obama and urged the president to "take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago" following controversial comments from Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday, The Hill reports.

Romney's remark was not the first time the presidential challenger has referenced Obama's hometown in a slam. Last month, he accused Obama of relying on "dishonest" and "constant" attacks against his campaign which "may work in Chicago, but it’s not going to work across America.”

Ed Gillespie, Romney’s senior campaign adviser, took the Windy City reference a step further and said Obama was engaging in "Chicago-style politics and Chicago-style economics" by rewarding his friends and donors while the national economy weakens.
