Thanksgiving 2011: What Media Personalities Are Thankful For
|

Every Thanksgiving, The Huffington Post asks media personalities what they're thankful for. This year, their answers ranged from family and friends to kitchen appliances.

Below, see how they responded. We hope that somewhere (preferably Brooklyn), Al Sharpton is having a slice of pie.

Happy Thanksgiving from HuffPost Media! Please tell us what you're thankful for in the comments.

I'm thankful that the UC Davis police are not in charge of security at our offices. I'm thankful that Herman Cain doesn't oversee HR here, that the supercommittee isn't responsible for determining our editorial budget, and that Mayor Bloomberg hasn't paid a visit to our nap rooms (he might find them a "health and fire safety hazard"). I'm thankful my daughters are home from college for the holidays. I'm thankful my move to New York has brought me a great new neighborhood filled with surprises around every corner. And I'm very thankful for our great HuffPost team -- which rose to the challenge of adding 24 new sections since March -- and for our passionate, engaged community.

"I'm thankful that the Super committee has finished dominating social media and reached a resolution - oh wait, that's Demi and Ashton. I'm thankful for live music and my guitar teacher... my pug and little brother who always keeps me in check. I'm thankful we'll see the offspring of Will and Kate before the Biebs (thanks to that DNA test). I'm thankful for the men and women who serve our country - and those tearful videos when they come home and surprise their little ones. And I'm thankful that this year I'm spending my Thanksgiving evening with amazing fellow CNN'ers (for whom I'm making a mean Southern-infused sweet-potato casserole!)."

On this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all of the gifts we often take for granted. I will think of the hungry children I met in Mogadishu who ran up to me on the street and asked, 'How are you?' With cheerful faces, they were eager to practice the only English they knew. They are growing up in unthinkable surroundings and still find reason to smile. I am always thankful for my incredible family and the joy around the dinner table, but this year I am even more so. (credit:ABC)

"This year I am thankful for wonderful new beginnings. A new job, a new home, a new city, and even new friends. I'm thankful for the opportunity to create something different everyday anchoring a show and working with a great team.I'm thankful that eating rubber turkey, and canned cranberry sauce from a styrofoam container in Crawford, Texas is just a distant Thanksgiving memory.I'm thankful I can now make plans, entertain, and celebrate the holidays more fully.I am thankful for my family, and loving friends and the ability now to see them more often!"
Chuck Todd, Host of "The Daily Rundown" on MSNBC(13 of19)

"I'm thankful the Republican candidates have decided NOT to debate this weekend. I just hope that when I'm sitting around my Turkey Day table, I don't cut someone off and tell my wife she has 30 seconds to respond and pass the cranberry sauce. On a more serious note, this truly is the greatest holiday we celebrate; it's my personal favorite; one that's actually based in unity and at a time like this in our American political history, we could use a little unity -- and mashed potatoes too."

I'm also thankful for my encouraging, supportive family that lives hundreds of miles away, but is always close. "I'm thankful for the men and women who leave behind their families for places like Iraq and Afghanistan, not knowing if they'll ever come back, while the rest of us sit around and Tweet about 'Jersey Shore.'"

"I've just left Rwanda, where I've seen how that remarkable country has come together to overcome some of the worst atrocities the world has ever witnessed. We shouldn't have to see these things with out own eyes to realize how lucky we are in the United States, and what just a little concerted effort could do to lift the most unfortunate of us out of tough times. This year I'm thankful that, despite what seems to be constant bickering and blame, ultimately Americans DO care about each other, and about our well-being as a society. I'm thankful that neither politics nor business ultimately trumps the human spirit."
