"The Big Issue" magazine was first published in Britain in 1991 to create a means for the homeless to earn a steady income. Now, the magazine is set to launch a Taiwanese edition with the same strategy.

The magazine will be distributed to homeless workers, who will sell copies outside of urban metro stations. For each magazine sold, a worker will be able to keep half of the price they receive. The Taiwanese "Big Issue" hopes to capture a young audience by focusing on topics of fashion and technology.

With the launch of the magazine, the publisher hopes to provide "dignity" to the homeless population, a demographic that has been growing over the last two years due to the effects of the global recession.
