Why Is ABC News Nakedly Gay-Baiting In Their Napolitano Story?

ABC News has a story up today by Devin Dwyer about how Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is facing "tough questions" about "her leadership." But the real magical feature of the piece is that ABC has decided to take the opportunity to indulge themselves in a little gay-baiting by referring to Napolitano in their headline as "Big Sis." Why? There's no substantive reason. They just want to smirk about Napolitano's sexual backstory, which I guess, to their minds, has some important bearing on her ability to carry out the duties of her office.

It's not just the headline, here's Dwyer's second paragraph:

The former Arizona governor, dubbed "Big Sis" by one conservative blogger, oversees more than 188,000 civilian employees, 200,000 contractors and an amalgam of 20 subagencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.

Oh, how coy! Who is this "conservative blogger" that ABC News refers to? That's their link, not mine, and if you follow it, it takes you to The Drudge Report, the "conservative blogger" upon whom ABC News depends upon in order to garner web traffic.

Also coy: How did Napolitano come to be known as "Big Sis" by this life-giving "conservative blogger" who ABC News is so desperately seeking the attention of? Let's go back in time, to January 8, 2010, and I'll let Matt Delong of the Washington Independent explain:

The Drudge Report just sent out a siren to inform readers that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano wants to see under your clothes. And from the juxtaposition of the accompanying photos, it appears the right-leaning Website wants to suggest that she's particularly interested in looking under the clothes of other ladies.

Drudge's photo choices might be a bit less conspicuous if Napolitano, who is unmarried but...denies she is gay, had not been the subject of a lengthy and at times vicious whisper campaign about her sexuality in her home state of Arizona, where she was formerly governor.

So there you have it. ABC News wants you to know that unsubstantiated Sapphic lust is what's causing people to question Janet Napolitano's leadership.
