Bernard Hopkins sumó una pelea más en la que el nocaut brilló por su ausencia con lo que acumula nueve años sin terminar temprano, pero pasó a la historia como el campeón más viejo en retener una corona mundial dejando en el olvido la marca que tenía el legendario George Foreman.

El peleador de 48 años y 9 meses de edad, logró retener la corona de los Semicompletos de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo al dar cuenta por decisión unánime del alemán Karo Murat.

En un duelo realizado en Atlantic City, el veterano estadounidense logró jugar a placer con su contrincante – 15 años menor – y aunque presentó una pelea muy sucia logro llevarse una victoria clara pues del séptimo al decimoprimero round marcó la clara diferencia a base de un muy buen boxeo.

“Los primeros rounds jugué con él, quería ver que hacía. Pero sin duda no sacó lo mejor de mi”, dijo el peleador que cambió su apodo a El Alien, pues se considera fuera de este planeta.

Con esta victoria, Hopkins mejoró fu foja a 54 triunfos, 32 nocauts, seis derrotas y dos empates.

Quillin no luce

Kid Chocolate estuvo lejos de emocionar a Atlantic City, la noche del sábado sufió para poder retener la corona mundial Media de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo al dar cuenta por nocaut técnico en 10 asaltos a Gabriel Rosado.

El referi Allan Huggins decidió detener las acciones, pues en el noveno episodio el retador sufrió un profundo corte en el párpado izquierdo que no pudo ser controlado en la esquina.

“Estoy de acuerdo con la decisión del referi, pues no se puede arriesgar la salud de esa forma”, dijo el campeón mundial invicto que tuvo complicaciones durante la contienda con la agresividad que manejó su adversario.

Con esta victoria, Quillin mejoró su foja a 30 victorias – 21 por nocaut – y realizó su segunda defensa; mientras que Rosado sumó su séptimo descalabro.

“Estoy listo para enfrentar a quienes mi promotora diga, pero a mi me gustaría enfrenar a Maravilla Martínez”, dijo el campeón neoyorkino.
