Meek Mill has a few often explicit words for celebrities who don’t agree with the Black Lives Matter movement.
During the latest episode of the Tax Season podcast, the rapper spoke about why the social justice movement is relevant and his frustrations with public figures who say “All Lives Matter.”
“Right now, we gotta get our rights right. We gotta get what we need right. That’s why they’re saying ‘Black Lives Matter,’” he said. “When I see other celebrities say ‘All Lives Matter,’ I be like, ‘What you talking about? Y’all niggas got this rich?’”
The 29-year-old then criticized what he sees as the double standard among police officers who enforce drug laws in urban communities while ignoring similar drug crimes on college campuses.
“The hood is flooded with drugs, college campuses ain’t flooded with drugs? College campuses [are] flooded with drugs the same way the hood is,” he said. “You think they got NARCs running around pulling guns out on people and shooting them? Fuck no. So why would you open your mouth and say ‘All Lives Matter? We know All Lives Matter, that was never the issue. We’re talking about us getting killed on paper and going to jail for no reason.”
Meek Mill also addressed police brutality in an Instagram post following the July police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. In the post, the rapper vowed not to continue rapping about “extreme violence” after the release of his latest album “Dreamchasers 4,” but he maintained:
“I will remain to let my people know in these terrible environments to adapt and survive at any cost.”
