El domingo, en la Plaza de la Paz, se celebraron los dos siglos de Barranquilla con un espectáculo de luces, videos y música, donde participaron más de mil personas, y la actriz Sofía Vergara, se subió a la tarima junto a otras personalidades y entonó el himno local en medio de un carnaval de colores con serpentinas, banderas verde amarillo y rojo, y un coro de niños vestidos de blanco.
Entre los asistentes se encontraban el presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, la alcaldesa de Barranquilla, Elsa Noguera, múltiples personalidades como la diseñadora Silvia Tcherassi, la actriz Maritza Rodríguez, la escritora Isabella Santo Domingo, el popular beisbolista Edgar Rentería, e invitados musicales como Cabas y Checo Acosta.
Esa tarde la alcaldía le hizo un reconocimiento especial a cuatro barranquilleros que le han dado mucho orgullo y reconocimiento internacional a la ciudad: Sofía Vergara, Édgar Rentería, Silvia Tcherassi y la cantante Shakira, quien no pudo asistir.
"Cada vez que vengo a Barranquilla la encuentro mejor", expresó Sofía durante la rueda de prensa en el Hotel Estelar
La protagonista de la serie "Modern Family", agregó "la felicidad para mi es inmensa al estar en Barranquilla. Esta es mi casa, esta es mi gente y me siento orgullosa de ser barranquillera y feliz de haber celebrado los 200 años de mi tierra con tanta gente linda y grandes amigos como Silvia y Edgar."
Luego de la fiesta, Sofía se regresó a New York para continuar con su agenda de trabajo y seguirá grabando luego en New Orleans la película "Heat" junto al actor Jason Statham.
