Forget howling at the moon -- can all wolves just start hiccuping like Nikai?

Nikai is the newest addition to the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, New York, which works to promote wolf conservation by teaching about wolves, their relationship to the environment and the human role in protecting their future.

Although it's super easy to fawn over Nikai's adorable hiccups, it's important to note that wolves need our protection more than ever. Two critically endangered species, the Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf, are among the rarest mammals in North America with around 400 Mexican gray wolves and 300 red wolves remaining, according to the center.

"Every one of these endangered wolves in captivity is a part of something bigger than their pack and the facilities that house them," the Wolf Conservation Center explains.
