The Michigan Humane Society is on the hunt for the cold-hearted culprit that abandoned a puppy in a freezing Detroit trash can.

The Pomeranian-mix dog, which was too small to get into the tall garbage bin on his own, was found covered in frost. He was also unresponsive, despite a few ear twitches he made when his rescuer spoke.

“[He] had obviously been in there for some time,” said Debby MacDonald, chief cruelty inspector at the Michigan Human Society, in a video posted on the organization’s Facebook page.

Upon discovery, the canine was rushed to a veterinary clinic, but had to be humanly euthanized due to the severity of the dog’s pain and plummeting health.

MacDonald finds the entire situation completely unacceptable.

“We need to step up and be the voice for these animals," she said. "We need to take some action to make sure this doesn’t happen, and to make sure the person responsible for this comes to justice.”

The organization is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who did this.

“The Michigan Humane Society implores people to call when they see animals being abused or when they hear about animals being abused,” said MacDonald.
