GOP Leery Of 'Political Stunts' -- At Least The Ones Not Of Their Own Design

GOP Leery Of 'Political Stunts' -- At Least The Ones Not Of Their Own Design
|

Here is the incredibly strange story of two headlines that appeared on Roll Call, within twenty minutes of each other (subscription required for Roll Call).

And in the article tease, David Drucker writes:

Congressional Republicans have continued this week to dismiss President Barack Obama's bipartisan health care summit as a useless political stunt, even as they send strong signals that they will in fact attend.

So, the GOP is leaning toward attending, but are leery of the summit being nothing more than a "political stunt" to be broadcast on live television.

And then twenty minutes later, it is reported that the GOP is inviting Democrats to participate in a political stunt broadcast on live television.

Sayeth the tease:

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on Wednesday invited Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) to participate in a televised, bipartisan forum on job creation and economic growth.

Meanwhile, outside the Beltway, no Americans are making plans of any kind to watch either of these things.
