A tornado watch has been issued for Philadelphia as a system of storms makes its way toward the northeastern United States.
The National Weather Service has issued an alert for Eastern Pennsylvania and portions of New Jersey:
TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF ERN PENNSYLVANIA AND MOST OF NEW JERSEY THROUGH 800 PM. DECENT INSTABILITY ACROSS THE AREA IS BEING TAPPED BY AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE UPPER 80S TO LOW 90S WITH DEW POINTS MOSTLY IN THE LOW 70S.
Apart from Philadelphia, a tornado watch is in effect for nine other Pennsylvania counties: Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery and Northampton.
The tornado watch, which is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, covers eight states, from Maine to New Jersey, and includes New York, Newark, Boston, Providence and Hartford.
