Desde afuera: los pobres de la NBA piden paga olímpica

Los juegos han cambiado mucho desde que se consideraban amateur. Quien jugaba en calidad de profesional no podía participar en los Juegos Olímpicos.

No soy experto en deportes olímpicos o cualquier otro, ni mucho menos jugador. Pero los Juegos Olímpicos son un evento tan popular, tan multitudinario, que trasciende las meras disciplinas deportivas.

Por eso, me llamó la atención la noticia de que Kobe Bryant, el admirado (por mí) estrella de básquetbol de los Lakers e integrante de la selección estadounidense, haya dicho por ahi que los jugadores de la NBA que acudieron al llamado de la patria y representan al país en Londes deberían recibir paga.

"Hay cierta verdad en esta [demanda]", comentó diplomáticamente Kobe.

¿Y el honor? ¿Y la gloria nacional? ¿Y el sacrificio?
Por favor. No nos confundamos. Una cosa es jugar bajo la bandera nacional y otra el negocio, dice Bryant.

Después de todo, Bryant, quien todavía tiene un contrato de dos años en los Lakers por la ridícula suma de 58 millones de dólares, no juega por amor al arte.

Pero Bryant, dicho sea en su defensa, no fue el primero en elevar el pedido. Lo antecedieron leyendas de la talla de Dwyane Wade y Ray Allen.

Y no es que antes del próximo encuentro se declaren en huelga si no se les paga. "Aunque muchos de nosotros probablemente compartamos la misma opinión, no es que digamos, bueno, no vamos a jugar si ustedes no nos pagan... Sí que jugamos. Y lo hacemos porque queremos", aclaró el astro.

Qué alivio.

Los juegos han cambiado mucho desde que se consideraban amateur. Quien jugaba en calidad de profesional no podía participar en los Juegos Olímpicos. Esto daba lugar a quejas de que los participantes de lo que era el bloque soviético comparecían como amateur, se señalaba en sus documentos que trabajaban en ésta u otra fábrica, mientras que en realidad su otro "trabajo" era solamente una engañifa ya que, en realidad, el estado les permitía dedicarse totalmente al deporte. Bajo esta explicación primero y últimamente ya sin necesidad de explicaciones, el carácter voluntario, amateur, popular de los juegos ha ido desapareciendo.

Nada más lógico, pues, que el proceso culmine con la demanda de pago por parte de estos proletarios, estos explotados, estos paupérrimos jugadores de la NBA.
