LAS VEGAS - El estadounidense Floyd Mayweather jamás pensó que el boricua Miguel Angel Cotto le causaría tanto problema.

La noche del sábado, en el MGM Grand de Las Vegas, el puertorriqueño de 32 años logró dar una muy buena actuación al hacer fallar en múltiples ocasiones al invicto estadounidense Floyd Mayweather y dar una pelea cerrada que nada tuvo que ver con las puntuaciones que dieron los jueces, 117-111, 118-110 y 117-111.

Miguel mostró una nueva faceta como peleador y dejó de lado las malas noches que tuvo ante Manny Pacquiao y Antonio Margarito, boxeando y pegando a las zonas blandas de un 'Money' Mayweather que lejos estaba de esperar una actuación del boricua como la que se vio sobre el ring.

El boricua logró lastimar en varias ocasiones al estadouniense invicto y además logró mantener las tarjetas empatadas hasta el octavo episodio, a pesar de los upers que Floyd lanzaba con la firme intención de mantener a raya a su contrincante.

"Miguel Angel es un excelente peleador. Muy fuerte campeón. Sin duda ha sido una de las peleas más difíciles", dijo Mayweather al termino de la contienda.

Junito Cotto, quien aspiraba a defender la corona de Supercampeón Superwelter de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo y conquistar la corona Diamante del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, mostró de inmediato su molestia por los resultados y salió sin dar declaraciones.

Con esta derrota, Cotto sumó su tercer derrota; mientras que Floyd sumó la victoria número 43 como profesional.
