It's like something out of a Nancy Drew book.

Quick-thinking children dived to the ground to form a human arrow to help a police helicopter track down two burglary suspects.

The group, whose ages ranged from 6 to 12, cut short an Easter egg hunt in southeast England at 2 p.m. on Good Friday to point the National Police Air Service crew in the right direction.

They spotted the chopper circling above the field in Capel, Surrey. Surrey Police had deployed it following reports of a burglary at a nearby building.

After guessing the cops were after two men they'd seen running near them on the land, the kids decided to give the airborne law enforcers the helpful tip.

Footage filmed from the 'copter shows them quickly dropping to the earth to make the human arrow.

The camera operator spots their signal in the plowed field and zooms in to the tip of the pointer. He switches to thermal imaging and follows it along until the camera captures a figure crouching in the field.

"The helicopter crew quickly relayed this information to officers on the ground and a short time later two men were arrested," Surrey Police posted in a statement on its website.

"I'm sure the last thing the group of daring Capel residents expected when they set out on Friday afternoon was to abandon their Easter egg hunt to assist us in a police search, but the initiative they demonstrated proved to be invaluable," said police air service Sgt. Paul Sochon.

"The swift action taken by the group of parents and their children was the sort of thing you would usually associate with an Enid Blyton adventure but their ingenuity proved a great help for our crews."

The NPAS crew later landed the helicopter near to the children to thank them and their parents for the role they'd played in detaining the suspects.

Police arrested two men, aged 27 and 28, on suspicion of burglary. They have been bailed until May 13.
