Hurricane Joaquin isn’t so pretty here on Earth, but from space, the rain-making, surf-churning Category 4 storm has a surreal, almost peaceful appearance.
Just check out this photo posted at 10:22 a.m. ET today by NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, who is about halfway through his one-year stint on the International Space Station.
Kelly's tweet (above) included good wishes for those on Earth, and understandably so. Joaquin has been blamed for at least two fatalities--and though it doesn't appear to be the superstorm some had feared, it's still raging.
"We're certainly very concerned about this situation," Bill Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, told The Weather Channel this morning. "We're expecting very high to extreme levels of rainfall over the next 48 hours."
